One update from SIG:AR:TYR

SIG:AR:TYR  shared the following statement : It's hard to believe that it has been almost a year since the release of Northen. I did not want to repeat the large time gap that happened between Godsaga and Northen, so I've been working on a number of ideas, sounds, and riffs, and have almost an album's worth of material ready to be hammered into final songs and recorded.   As I might have mentioned before, I've grown quite tired of the whole Viking thing. Let's face it, the theme has been well worn to death, and Northen was meant to be my last foray on the subject. I'd like to get back to more general dark pagan themes, something more like the songs on Beyond the North Winds and Godsaga.   And this might come as a surprise, but I’m also quite tired of the band name SIG:AR:TYR. At the time I made it up while making my original acoustic demos, it seemed mysterious and clever, not realizing that the roots would dig in and grow into a demo EP and four full...

SIG:AR:TYR - Godsaga review

Image
Like the band promised & said on their official website, Godsaga is about Odin's hanging on Yggdrasil but the artwork refers to Egil Skallagrimsson. More about Egill Skallagrimsson on wiki . You can find lyrics in the booklet but also on their official website. Now, lets talk about the content of the cd.

SIG:AR:TYR tells the Godsaga

The band explained the following regarding the upcoming "Godsaga" album : "The inspiration for the new album "Godsaga" is loosely based on the saga of Egil Skallagrimsson, and Odin’s sacrifice on the world tree Yggdrasil. The two key words that seem to come up in these themes are "loss" and "sacrifice".  In the saga of Egil Skallagrimsson, he loses both his sons, yet, in the poem he composes to deal with his grief, Sonatorrek ("the irreparable loss of sons"), he curses Odin the oath breaker for his great loss and misery, while reluctantly praising him for his gift of poetry and hatred towards his enemies. Odin, pierced on his own spear and hanging for nine nights, sacrificed himself on the world tree to discover the knowledge of the runes. Odin also sacrificed an eye to the Well of Mimir to gain the wisdom of all things, and lost his son Baldur.
