DELIRIUM interview

As I promised when I built the DELIRIUM thread.
I interviewed their vocalist, Manuel Hiller regarding the upcoming EP, and more.

01. Hi Manuel! From winter 2012, you entered the Basement Media Productions to record your forthcoming EP. I know you shared one studio's video (see above) but tell me how happened the recordings ?
Hi! Well, the recordings happened quite smooth... no big problems... we've changed a small part for one song, but the others went good. Every single member knew exactly what to do, so no problems appeared. Our Producer Daniel Bäuerlein came up with some great Ideas, so we used more guitars or effects in some parts, so this piece is absolutely Awesome.... We're very pleased with the results.

02. Can you reveal us the name for that EP ?
The name of the EP is "Das Erbe der alten Zeit" which means "the heritage of the old time"

03. Is it a concept ?
No, not really. All songs are about historical franconian topics, so if you want to call that a concept, then it is....

04. What is the Tracklist ? And what are all the songs about ?
01. Perchta : the song is about Perchta. This is the franconian goddess of family and proliferation.
02. Wolfshenker : this is the story of a werewolf in medieval Ansbach (a Town in Franconia) and how he was caught and killed.
03. Der schwarze Jobst : the first part of the story is about a local criminal, who was punished by being bound on the back of a deer to be dragged through the woods till he suffered to death. but he survived.
The Second and final Part of the story will be released with the next Full-Length.
04. Spatha : Spatha is the name of a sword the Francs used against the Roman Empire, later.
05. Helfahrt : Helfahrt means the passing from midgard to hel when you die.
06. BONUS: ...und Irminsul wird nie mehr fallen Hrisdolgr (Ex Kromlek) modified the track, which was the last song of our debut album. Unfortunately we don't know if we can ever play this version in front of an audience due to our lack of a keyboarder. This Bonus track is available on the Physical Copy only!

05. Can we know the release date for that EP ?
We'd like to know the date as well. As soon as we have a release date, we will tell you.

06. Musically speaking, how sounds that EP ?
The EP is a Mixture of Catchy, folky Melodies... the groove of Oldschool Deathmetal and of course the aggressiveness of Black Metal. The Songs are very varied and every song had its particular mood.

07. Are there differences with your debut album ?
We grew as musicians and refined our skills to write more diverse songs.
We also placed more emphasis on melody-lines and moods of the songs. I think we have improved a lot in these points, compared with the first release. But what might be the most obvious change is the increased aggressiveness in contrast to the debut that mainly moved within the mid-tempo range.

08. Did you find a label to release that EP ?
We decided not to look for a label to release the EP. We haven't had much success the last time and we didn't want to look for a label for a long time. Instead we will release the EP ourselves in a limited amount of 166 pieces physical. You can still buy online the EP without the bonus track.

09. Can you describe the artwork ? Who's the one behind that artwork ?
The artwork looks like the cover of an old book. We think that it fits the title.
I crafted the artwork myself after some Discussions on the ideas of the other band members.

10. What do you expect from that EP ?
Of course, for those who understand the lyrics: We want to tell the franconian History. Many Interesting things happened, so we think, the people shall know about...
Musical sight: We hope that the people who listen to our music will like the new songs and maybe gather a few new listeners.

11. Any particular songs that you like to play in live or that you are proud of the composition ? Why ?
We are proud of most of our songs. The songs we don't play live anymore don't reflect our current style because we started the band some time ago and because of changing musicians our style changed.
We still like all of our songs, because every one of them helped us to learn more about the music we wanted to play.

12. Do you have some gigs planned ?
At the time we have 2 gigs to play. The first one is the "Summernight Open Air 2013" in Mechernich and the second one is the "Fimbul Festival 2013" in Dettelbach. But we're always looking for Gigs ;)

13. What are the bands that you shared the stage with ?
We have shared the stage with many local bands and some bigger ones like Sodom, Adorned Brood, Suidakra or Agathodiamon...
A complete list of our past gigs and the bands we played with is listed on our facebook page.

14. What are your best & worse experiences ?
Our best experiences were all the gigs we played and the bands and people we got to meet.
The worst experience was learning just how much money it costs to form a band, buying equipment and the whole stuff. A band is a very expensive hobby, but you get so much fun times in return. So it was for a noble cause.

15. How do you like the Pagan/Folk Metal scene in Germany ? And worldwide ?
The whole scene in Germany is like a big family. You meet and have a good time. All of the musicians are Metalheads themselves and so, you meet many people with one shared passion.
We don’t have many experiences with bands from the International scene, but the few people we met are very friendly and open minded.

16. What bands influenced DELIRIUM ?
In the beginning we were influenced by Riger and Menhir, because these were the first pagan bands we listened to. Since we started playing, we met many different bands who had a big influence like Thormesis, Thy Wicked and Hroptatyr etc.
Because of the personal taste of each member we get inspired by the songs we listen to on a daily basis.

17. I have heard that you want to upload your first demo to one new bandcamp page for everyone to download it free. Can we know the bandcamp address then ?
Our bandcamp adress is: http://frankendelirium.bandcamp.com/

18. Will your debut album & the forthcoming EP be available in digital version ?
You can buy a digital copy of all our teleases on Bandcamp.

19. Will your debut album & EP be available in physical version too ?
Yes, you can get the CD and the EP via our facebook-shop.

20. Some words to add for the readers of that page ?
We hope you had fun reading our interview and got the Informations you've expected.
