Learn everything on the new TROLL BENDS FIR album
I interviewed Konstantin, also known as "Troll" from TROLL BENDS FIR. The interview deals with their forthcoming record and the band itself.
01. Hi Konstantin! These days, you are passing a lot of time with recordings in the studio. How is it going for the new TROLL BENDS FIR album ?
It’s recorded, mixed and today I got its final version with mastering! So it’s ready!
02. So, you are currently working on your next album entitled “Hopheart”, what means that word for you ?
Well, as you know, we play “Beer folk” and this album isn’t an exception. “Hopheart” is the utter combination of music and beer.
03. Your previous cd so called “Brothers in Drinks” was made in two steps. TROLL BENDS FIR released one first EP “Oktoberfest” and another EP “Hoplnir” later… Then, these two EP’s were re-released in one cd later and so, “Brothers in Drinks” was born. What was the idea behind these editions in those times ?
To be honest, in Russia lots of people download music from the web. We decided to split the album into 2 EPs and later release the whole album with a bonus track. That way we had a nice reason for a tour every half of a year in support for the EP and we ended up selling twice more of CDs : )
04. Why haven’t you choose the same option for the upcoming album planned for November 15th of 2013 ?
It was an experiment, it was and ended. We decided to do differently with this album. Without any reasons, that’s it. : )
05. What did you conclude yourself from that experience to release one album cut in 2 EP’s with different releases dates, and later the two EP’s re-released but in one cd-compilation within one bonus track ?
Conclusion: more money and more work.
06. You invited Jonne Järvelä from KORPIKLAANI for that bonus track so called “Humppa is my neighbor”. You also made one video with the man but can you share with us that experience with Jonne while the recordings and rehearsals for that song ?
We’ve been friends with Jonne for about 10 years so I just wrote to him and suggested to sing a song with us – he agreed right away. We recorded the song and emailed it to him. He learned everything, translated into Finnish what we asked. Then I came to his place in Lahti, where we rented the studio for some hours. There Jonne recorded his vocals parts and after returning to Saint Petersburg, we added his vocals to the mix… Voila!
07. You and Jonne are friends for sometimes now and you both also shared the stage together… Can you tell us how happened that friendship ?
I was one of the organizers of first Korpiklaani gigs in Russia, also performing there with TBF. That’s how it all started…
08. Have you invited some guests for the new album ?
This time we were able to do without any help. :)

11. You were in other bands before TROLL BENDS FIR so, tell me Konstantin, how did that will appear to you to make BeerFolk songs ?
Before TBF I played in the following bands: “Painful Memories” (doom/death) and “Nomans Land” (Viking metal). Then I wanted to make something own one and understood that it should have looked like and there’s a result – after almost 15 years the release of this 6th album!
12. Do you have some TROLL BENDS FIR songs more personal? Do you have some examples to give us ?
All our songs are our kids and we love all of them. They’re all a part of my life and it’s difficult to opt out some.
13. Tell me, how does TROLL BENDS FIR compose lyrics and music ?
We usually get drunk, go to the rehearsal place and while getting completely wasted play something and record it. Next day we listen to it and if we like something, start developing it haha To be serious, usually an idea come to my mind, I bring it to the rehearsal and we start playing with it there.
14. What is your best experience with TROLL BENDS FIR ?
Hope it’s yet to come! TBF is a half of my life and accordingly of my life experience.
15. And your worse one ?
We were about to sign a contract deal with a major Moscow label for our 2nd album but 2 days before the appointed meeting its owner was shot.
16. I’ve heard you are also working on another project and that is also why your cave became your studio :)Can you tell us more on that new project ?
Let’s talk about it a little later. I can only tell that I’m in the process of recording a debut album!
17. Sadly, TROLL BENDS FIR didn’t meet the French stage yet… Do you know if you have some listeners from there? Well, you already have me but... ? : )
I checked the admin panel of our Facebook page, France is on the 6th place of countries where the visitors come from. Even more people than from Russia, it’s on the 7th haha You know that Russians don’t use FB much, we have our own Facebook…
18. Your band is rather known in Russia, you do a lot of gigs over there and only recently, you started some gigs to other countries, how was it ?
Everything’s great! People mosh same at shows with only one difference that they speak different languages.
19. What helped that recent evolution of the new TROLL BENDS FIR listeners outside Russia ?
Well, I think one of the reasons is that the world is getting smaller these days thanks to the modern technologies.
20. Would you like to tour in Europe and America, in the future?
Can you name any band that wouldn’t ? : )
Well, I know there are some. : )
21. ...Do you have some gigs planned soon ?
Yes, the soonest one is at Tanzt! Festival in Munich at the end of November.
22. Do you also plan some official videos to promote the new album ?
Of course, and not just one but 2-3.
23. Do you have some other side-projects like to appear as guest for some other bands ?
Yes, I’m invited as the guest vocals to the new part of metal opera by Epidemia band. I already took part in their previous work, actually, it’s a huge project with many guests from leading metal bands of Russia.
24. What are the TROLL BENDS FIR influences ?
In Russia we’re already an influence ourselves now
