RAVENBLOOD interview

I interviewed the RAVENBLOOD about their debut album, out since today.

01. First of all, why have you chosen that bandname ?
[Ravenblood] Well, we had a hard time searching for a name that would fit us. We wanted something to match our musical intentions, and I came up with a song of a band which I really like, Falconer. The song is named "Ravenhair" and then, Ecu said we could change "hair" for "blood". We agreed it was an awesome name, because the connotations of the words Raven and Blood - seen from the "honor" part, not from the massacre one hahaha - fitted really nice with our music.

02. Today is released your debut album entitled "Within the Ghost's Pride". What is it about? Is it a concept album ?
[Jordi M] Yes, it's a concept album. At the end of the artwork you'll find a little story concerning the true meaning of the whole thing in case someone wonders about that, but I'll try to make it short for you. It is about a man who lived a life that was only real inside his mind since he was suffering from several mental illnesses. He was doing what he considered good, however the man was executed for several crimes he couldn't understand. In the afterlife, he was granted the chance of watching his life again but seeing the real part of his actions.
Each song is kind of a metaphor of mundane situations that we could also find ourselves involved in at some point of our lives. I think a lot of people will see themselves reflected in some of the songs (which I think is great by the way!).

03. Why have you chosen that artwork? Does it mean anything special for the band ?
[Jordi M] It matches perfectly the concept of the album. It mixes lots of weird images, some images that remind of Rochard's test, among other things in order to make you feel like you are kind of crazy too. We have to thank our friend Gorka because he did an awesome job!

04. Promoting that debut album, you made one official video for the song “Relief”, what is the song about ?
[Jordi M] It starts describing those moments when you see everything dark, you only feel sorrow and you feel like you could never be happy again. The song's about overtaking that situation, it pretends to be like the shining light at the end of the darkest of tunnels, a relief for the pain.

05. Can you describe ideas making that video ?
[Daniel P] Well, we all came quickly to the point that we wanted something dark, and since we had another video with some kind of story inside it, we wanted to do something very plain: just trying to add an ambience and context to the song, nothing more than that.

06. Did you enjoy the making off that “Relief” video ?
[Raul R] We enjoyed the fact that the video was taking an awesome shape step by step thanks to the crew, but trust me, being for a long time outside with 0ºC about at 3:00am and wearing shirts with no sleeves is not enjoyable at all hahahahaha

07. Any special fun stories from the "Relief" or "Pathfinder" making videos that you could share with your fans ?
[Daniel Ecu] Well, during the Relief videoclip we were all inside a van with the heating system on meanwhile the directors were discusing what to do. When everything was clear and ready to record again, we jumped from the van, running to our places, record the part and return sprinting to the van hahaha And during the Pathfinder one, we had to do some weird scenes, like headbanging on the top of a wall
[Jordi] I almost fell one time, I saw Death so close to me...hahaha.
[Daniel Ecu] During the main band shot we had people fishing behind us...The crew had to do a lot of work trying to hide them hahaha

08. What is about "Pathfinder" song ?
[Jordi M] It is a short story about how a person could feel while suffering from a mental-destroying illness. He does realize what's happening at some point, but it's too damn late for him to stop it: he just falls in the arms of that particular Pathfinder. As I told you before, everything's a bit more complex, but I just want to give you a little lead so you can follow the main story!

09. What is yr fav official video released, and why ?
[Ravenblood] We don't dare to say which one is our favourite. Each one of them is a particular situation, and since we worked very hard on them both, we could say both are our favourites : )

10. From your official pages, we learn Celtic music & Folk are your influences in addition of the metal ones…  Can the Celtic & Folk influences be heard from your compositions ?
[Jordi M] I must say we've been losing some of the celtic & folk influences, but you can still find lots of traces in songs as King Among Slaves (the intro riff is very folk in my opinion), Hanging over the River and Revenant. They are not everywhere, but they can be found scattered all over the album!

11. How sounds your album, musically ?
[Jordi M] It's like some weird mix between Insomnium, Wintersun and maybe little doses of Children of Bodom and Ensiferum. It tries to submerge you in a melancholic atmosphere sometimes, but with very emotional parts and some intense and speedy ones too. I think the people should have a good listen and only by then they will be able to create their own opinion.

12. What are your lyrics about in all?
[Jordi M] Pretty much as I told you in the beginning: situations and struggles we could find ourselves involved at some points in our life, but made up with metaphores so they could complement a particular human story.

13. Where can the people buy the "Within the Ghost's Pride" album ?
[Jose Luis G] We just set up a bandcamp profile where you can easily buy it ( http://ravenblood.bandcamp.com/ ). There you can chose if you just want the media or if you want to buy the cd with the artwork and so on, which I think is the best option if you want to understand what the whole thing is about! If you have any trouble with that, you can just message us in our facebook profile ( https://www.facebook.com/Ravenbloodmetal ) and we'll try our best to help you get it!

14. Some words to say to the Community of Sword Chant ?
[Ravenblood] We wanted to thank you for your support, it's always very nice to have people like you who care about us, the small bands that want to grow up! Really, thanks from deep inside our hearts, and we hope we could meet someday in a gig!
