Interview with RAZKHAAL

01. Hi Antoine ! Last year, you founded RAZKHAAL with Francesco and Julien, why that bandname ?

Hi! Well we wanted a name that sounds primitive, tribal and a bit agressive, so we came the name Razkhaal which is the name of our goblin cave. Try to pronounce it with a goblin voice and you'll see!

02. RAZKHAAL plays « Goblin Folk Metal », can you describe your music ?

It's a mix of different inspirations, it's all about the ambiance of the songs which is inspired from video games like World of Warcraft and so on but also from bands like Finntroll, combining black metal vibes, death metal or sometimes industrial with folk and traditional music from the world and with a lot of fun too. All that makes the malicious goblin metal sound.

03. The line-up of the band is missing a drummer being complete, are you looking for a full time drummer ?

For the moment no, we're not. We have that alchemy with our session drummer that we don't want to lose and he makes an incredible work.

04. How did you met your session drummer Trollhammer, AKTARUM’s drummer ?

I've known him from quite some time now but at the very beginning we were looking for a drummer and I only knew him from his reputation and the fact that he was playing with Aktarum. Being a fan of that band and the sound they had with that drummer, I instantly thought of him for that job, to record tracks and to play with us for the shows.

05. I think the band will be on stage soon, can you remind us the event ?
Yes! Thank you for asking me that! We will play at the Rise of Trolls festival in Liège, Belgium.

06. Are you looking for more events to play in ?
Yes of course, we have some other possibilities but nothing has been confirmed yet. To be continued!


07. How difficult is it for RAZKHAAL to plan events with a drummer in many bands ?
It's actually not as complicated as it might seem, he's a very organised man! We plan a lot in advance so we're able to manage our timetables.


08. February 5th, 2023 will be released your debut EP titled « Goblin Spirit », can you share the artwork with us ?
Ok but really because it's you, shhhhh 🤫

10. Can you share with us your experience with the recordings of the EP ?

Sure! It has been recorded, mixed and mastered during 2021-2022. We got the drums recorded first by the good care of our troll friend, then we recorded the guitars, bass, orchestrations and vocals. We sent all that to our sound master and dear friend Charly Flemal who did an awesome job on the tracks for the mixing and mastering. It was quite a long process because we all have a full time job but we managed to get everything in time, incredible isn't it?

11. Is it your very first personal record ?
No i did some recordings with my previous band Xelepteüs with my friend Charly Flemal (who played in Ithilien). However, it wasn't a folk metal band at all, more like experimental djent/death.


12. Do you plan to make official music videos promoting the debut EP ?
It's not in the plans for the EP but we will definitely make music videos for the full length album. We want to take the time to make quality content.
